Standard Low Back Pain Chiropractic Treatment Explained | Chiropractor in East Brunswick, NJ
Do you have low back pain? Well, you’re in the right place.
My name is Dr. Jared Bornstein from NJ Health Performance in East Brunswick, New Jersey, and today we’re going to show you what a standard chiropractic treatment looks like.
When you come in, we’ll perform a comprehensive evaluation to determine exactly what your condition needs. But today, we’re going to show you what a standard chiropractic treatment looks like.
Preparing for Treatment
Let’s bring our patient in.
We’re going to take the therapy pads off.
This patient is coming in with low back pain only—nothing going down the legs—so there’s no disc involvement and no nerve involvement.
Because of that, our treatment today is going to focus on:
- Stretching the lower back
- Restoring joint movement
- Performing a chiropractic adjustment
Flexion-Distraction Therapy
The first treatment we’re going to use is called flexion-distraction.
What we’re doing here is gently stretching the joints and muscles of the lower back. It also helps decompress the discs, which is why we use it for patients with disc issues as well.
Typically, we’ll perform about 10 to 15 repetitions before moving on to the adjustment.
Chiropractic Adjustment
After we’ve stretched the joints and muscles, we’ll move into the chiropractic adjustment.
We’ll have the patient take a deep breath in…
…and then slowly blow it out.
Then we’ll adjust one side…
…followed by the other side.
That’s it.
Additional Therapies
After the adjustment, the patient may continue with any additional therapies that have been prescribed as part of their treatment plan.
Depending on the condition, that may include:
- Spinal decompression
- Physical therapy
- Acupuncture
